Media Tasting at Ottoman Kebab & Grill

Wanting to explore the rich and exotic flavors of Turkish cuisine yet not knowing where to find authentic ones? You might want to head over to Ottoman Kebab & Grill, a casual dining Turkish restaurant located at Savourworld, barely 5 minutes from Kent Ridge MRT.

Since Ottoman Kebab & Grill is managed by the company behind other multi-award winning restaurants such as Prata Wala and Zaffron Kitchen, rest assured that some of these dishes were beyond the mundane.

The meal started off with the Falafel Platter served with hummus dips and a side of refreshing salad and sauces. A vegetarian dish and the uncanny resemblance to meatballs was the first thing that came across my mind. The hummus dip was a perfect way to balance the dryness.

Falafel Platter at S$10.50.

Chef’s Pide, a Turkish boat shaped pizza topped with chicken, lamb, vegetables and cheese was perhaps one of my favourite that day. Despite the ordinary appearance, it was addictive, evenly covered with cheese and a possible winning dish among us foodies.

Perhaps it should be called ‘Chef’s Pride’ instead?

Chef’s Pide at S$13.90

The Doner Chicken Sandwich, on the other hand,nd was also quite a decent dish using pita bread. Chef’s Pide still appeals to me more, probably the perception of an open face pizza seems more attractive and easier to consume without having ingredients falling out. The lovely grilled marks on the bread was actually attractive though.

The Doner Chicken Sandwich at S$8.

The Doner Chicken Wrap was another dish that was a hot choice among us. Firmly wrapped with toasted tortilla that contains chunks of chicken, lettuce and tomatoes. It was also filling and satisfying.

The Doner Chicken Wrap at S$7.90.

The grand looking dish Incik is a Turkish style lamb shank served with babaganoush (aubergine mashed blended with tahni and olive oil). The portion definitely seems too large for a single pax. It would be a great dish for sharing.

Incik at S$22.90

Last but not least would be the Ottoman Shish Platter that serves 3 – 4 pax. It was a combination of chicken, beef, lamb, meatballs and prawns, with grilled tomatoes and peppers and comes with a salad on its side.

Beverage highlights would be the Turkish coffee, a choice of hot or cold apple tea or even the unique yogurt drink with salt. Do check with the friendly staffs as they gladly described to me each individual beverage. The cold apple tea gets a thumbs up from me.

Ottoman Shish Platter at S$49.00.

Turkish coffee S$3.90, a choice of hot S$3.50 or cold S$3.90 apple tea.

Pide is Turkish toasted flatbread which went pretty well with Hummus, a Turkish dip made from chickpeas.

Pide at S$2.90 and Hummus at S$7.50.
