Hattendo, famed for their bakery in Hiroshima since 1933. Be one of the first to visit Hattendo’s first overseas outlet in Singapore. Pipes by Hattendo is a dual-concept Cafe & Roasting Gallery and Izakaya. You will be able to enjoy cafe food in the day and izakaya food at night sourced from renowned Japanese prefectures.

Start off the izakaya experience with Suishin sake flight (S$20) featuring 4 x 40ml of different Suishin Sake from Hiroshima. Suishin brews their sake in extremely rare water from Mount Takanosu, giving a soft, delicate and fragrant flavour and it’s easy to drink. You may even enjoy sipping sake with light sashimi or oysters.

Be spoilt by the premium moriawase platter (S$38) featuring chu toro from Kuro Maguro, salmon and scallop. A shoutout to the chu toro, they are carefully sourced from Misaki Port in Kanagawa prefecture which is known for freshly-caught tuna exports. It may sounds steep but really isn’t when you see the amount of decently fresh, thick slices of sashimi presented.

Similar to the sashimi, their succulent oysters are also air flown from Hiroshima, known for their larger-than-average oysters.

Enjoy plump and juicy oysters in four flavours, Natural, Ikura Infused, Extra Texture with Lime Caviar and Extreme Bind of Okinawa Umibudo. The oysters from Hiroshima have a stronger, rich and creamier taste as compared to the rest. If you’re trying oysters for the first time, it is recommend to go for baked flavours like mentaiko, parmigiana, butter garlic and Hokkaido cheese!

Be amazed with the giant Salt Baked Barramundi ($63, 1kg) presented in a salt crust with a wooden hammer by the side. Pipes by Hattendo has implemented the traditional way of cooking the fish in salt crust. This process in Japanese is called Shiogama-Yaki, widely used by Japanese chefs. Have fun hammering as they’re made of thick layer of salt. Don’t be deceived by the lovely baked salt that looks like bread crumbs. There is a layer of kombu between the white meat and salt so that it doesn’t turn out overly salty. We’re loving the nicely seasoned moist white meat in the accompanied sweet sauce with shallots and Japanese green chilli dips.

Thick and juicy tonkatsu sandwiched between soft, fluffy and buttery sandwich (S$20) which we felt it’s great for takeaway too!

Feeling meh for Salt Grilled Black Tiger Prawns ($28, 8pcs), the texture was overly soft and mashy. Probably we preferred crunchy prawns instead!

Ended off the meal with Mixed Hokkaido Soft Serve ($8.50) in vanilla and mango flavour! Loves the crispy crunch at the bottom! Let’s kanpai and welcome the weekends!!
