Media Event for Chiba Prefecture
During the recent Chiba’s Food Special Event held at Novotel Hotel Clarke Quay, chef-owner Petrina has crafted a menu from Chiba ingredients obtained from her trip to Chiba Prefecture.
For those who are not familiar with Chiba Prefecture, it is just located adjacent to Tokyo, Japan’s capital. It is also a consumer’s paradise, a place that is home to the head offices of many businesses such as Japanese food companies. Having the Narita International Airport within its vicinity as well as the availability of shipping ports make Chiba a perfect economic hub for distribution, transportation and business meetings.
Chiba governor and former actor, Mr Kensaku Morita also graced the event to introduce the wonders of Chiba. Not forgetting the super RED and CUTE Chiba mascot CHI-BA-KUN, a curious creature born and living in Chiba Prefecture. Check him out from the side and you would see its profile shaped like the landform of Chiba Prefecture. Last but not least would be the Futomaki Sushi making demonstration where chefs prepared beautiful looking sushis with flowers and blossoms within.

- Stuffed Cabbage Rolled with minced chicken and Ang-chow sauce
- Hamaguri Konnyaku, served in Dashi using kombu from Chiba
- Kinmedai with Shiojime & Seaweed
- Braised Pork Belly with Chiba Shoyu and peanuts
- Jack Fruit Banana Cake served with Shiro-Miso White Chocolate Sauce
My favorite from the menu was definitely the Jack Fruit Banana Cake served with Shiro-Miso White Chocolate Sauce. Without reading the description, I would never know that it was actually a jackfruit banana cake. Probably the fragrance and taste were too mild to detect yet I found it pleasantly yummy. Something I would like to have for breakfast with a cup of hot milk tea!
