Boeuf | 2-Hour Free-Flow Argentinian Angus Ribeye Steak in Telok Ayer
With its bright blue walls and huge metal ox head above its door, you won’t miss Boeuf when walking along Telok Ayer. With a focus on beef and wine, this is the place for people looking for quality meats and curated wines without breaking the bank, especially with the promotion that they are running on weekends – 2-hour free flow Argentinian Aberdeen Black Angus Ribeye for $48++ per person at 4 different seatings: 11.30am, 1.30pm, 5.30pm and 7.30pm.
We headed down one afternoon to give it a try. Apart from the steak, we added on some Boeuf specials. The first dish was the Burratina Di Puglia ($28). A crisp salad with roasted cherry tomatoes, chutney crostini and pine nuts, tossed in a truffle balsamic reduction. The crisp crostini was a good pairing with the creamy burrata, although we wished they served a couple more pieces. Alternatively, you can pair the burrata with the complimentary bread served at the start of the meal – but save some stomach space if you visit for the free-flow steak.
Then came the main – 200g of Argentinian Aberdeen Black Angus Rib Eye Steak. You can indicate how well you prefer your steak done. Smoke with rosemary thyme, the beef is fired upon order even though it is a “free-flow” so although there is a waiting time, the quality is not compromised.
The Carpaccio ($24) features paper-thin slices of Australian F1 Wagyu tenderloin served with a truffle vinaigrette, pine nuts and parmigiano reggiano. Delightful and easy to eat.
To complement the steak, Boeuf offers sides (not included in the free-flow) like the Hand Cut Fries ($9) and Potato Gratin ($12). The fries are crispy and when served with the homemade mayonnaise, my dining partner kept reaching out for more.
I preferred the Potato Gratin as a side because of how comforting and fragrant Boeuf’s version is. Baked with rosemary and garlic and comprising of thin layers of potato, the potato gratin is not “heavy”, although filling, and also comforting to have.
To round up the meal, we had the creme brûlée ($13). The cream is infused with pure Madagascan Vanilla and the tanginess from the mixed berry compote cuts through the sweetness and we easily went through a plate of creme brûlée each! We did not have the chance to visit the Boeuf the Cellar (situated on Level 2 of the same shophouse) this time, but we had a peek there. It is such a beautiful and tasteful space. Similar to Level 1, warm red walls greet you but the lounge space above has leather couches and low tables that are perfect for groups to sit back and nibble on cheese and charcuterie along with a pairing of wine that the staff there will be happy to recommend. I would head back to try more off their ala carte menu, especially from the specials section! Budget per person: $48++ per person for the weekend free-flow buffet
