Last Update on 5 July 2016.
Geylang Serai turns vibrant with a long stretch pasar malam. Pasar Malam that lasts for a month before Hari Raya Puasa on 6 July 2016. When it comes to pasar malam, you can find almost anything. Its a night market that sells almost anything! Shopping, merriment and FOODSSSSS! Pasar malam is also a food heaven. The food list but not limited to:
- Ramly burger
- Thai iced milk tea
- Cotton candy sodas
- Thai rolled ice cream
- Grilled sotong
- Grilled otah
- Unicorn rainbow bagels
- Paddlepop drinks
- Fried foods
- Watermelon volcano
Ramly burger is a classic food at pasar malam. It is a egg-wrapping way of cooking with chicken patty and cheese. Mayonnaise and sweet sauce are added before the egg is wrapped. The bun is generously filled with sesame, including the bun’s base! Pasar malam is incomplete without ramly burger(S$3.50). Order 3 for S$10. There are many stores selling ramly burger. And this is my favourite store as shown below.
All burgers are freshly cooked at pasar malam.
There are alternatives before chicken cheese burger. Some yummy eats such as beef cheese, fish cheese, egg cheese and double patty cheese burger or roti john.
Grilled and deep fried sotong are also a new favourite at pasar malam.
Grilled otah is one of the food gems that I have found at pasar malam. All otahs are freshly prepared and grilled on the spot with family recipe and aromatic herbs since 1986.
They also sell other banana leaf wrapped foods.
Note the different toothpick colors. Otah not only comes with the original fish flavour(white toothpick). It also comes with prawn(red toothpick) and sotong(green toothpick). Every piece of otah otah is thick and herb savory. You can also see visible small fish slices and prawn/sotong pieces in every bite. It’s a pasar malam must buy at Geylang Serai.
Prawn and Sotong Otah Otah price at 4 for S$3 and Original Fish Otah Otah price at 4 for S$2.

Tips for Pasar Malam first timer as it is really very crowded and stuffy:
- Wear light
- Tie your hair (for ladies)
- Prepare cash, no nets or credit cards
- And last but not the least, bring your empty stomach to pasar malam!
Visit Geylang Serai Pasar Malam not only for the foods, and also for a glimpse of the glitz and glam of the beautiful lightings. According to the past records, most operators at pasar malam will cease operation on 5 July 2016. That is 1 day before Hari Raya Puasa. It’s less than 2 weeks left before its all gone.
