You no longer need to hunt down a hidden yellow door or climb five flights of stairs to experience the imaginative Southeast Asian creations of MasterChef Singapore 2023 winner Inderpal Singh. Meh’r, named lovingly after his daughter, has found a new home at street level, tucked into a bright corner of 50 South Bridge Road, just a minute’s walk from its old spot. It’s a quiet little blessing: more accessible, more visible, yet just as intimate.

Step inside and you’re wrapped in the kind of calm you didn’t know you were craving. Bamboo pendant lights give the room a soft amber glow, while warm wood tones and subtle Southeast Asian accents create a setting that feels like a slow Sunday dinner;  elegant, yet completely unhurried. It’s the kind of space that invites you to stay longer, talk slower, and eat more intentionally.

Mehr’s new chapter also brings about a trio of tasting menus.  We had the Interlude (5 course, $128++).  The first bite was a dainty sourdough crisp topped with a mousse of lemongrass, lime leaf, and basil, kissed with mango gel and micro coriander. Bright, herbaceous, and zingy.

Then came the appetisers.  Start off with the Bali Hamachi, a silky slice of 7-day dry-aged hamachi sits in a shiso bath of Bali-style broth. Sea grapes, seasonal veg, and plum gel add crunch and tang. It’s tropical, yet polished.

The duck tau bergedel shined out of the 3 appetisers. This two-bite wonder reimagines a hawker staple with finesse. A medallion of 14-day dry-aged duck, red curry hollandaise, pineapple, and egg floss, it manages to be nostalgic and new at once.

The fruit puri sees dragon fruit and melon encased in pani puri shells, dusted with dehydrated curry leaves.

The Bak Bak Wings was the standout.

Chef Inderpal’s signature Hainanese chicken rice deconstructed, stuffed into a wing, and served with a spicy banana chilli and chicken liver parfait toast. It’s bold, punchy, and rich without being overbearing. The kind of dish that makes you smile mid-bite.

The main was a tandoori-spiced lamb rack on cranberry-pistachio rice, flanked by quenelles of tomato pachidi and yogurt. It’s familiar, but sharper and more vibrant. Comfort food that wears a tailored suit.

Our pre-dessert looks like a glossy Magnum bar but tastes like Southeast Asia in a bite – papaya, milk, lime zest crunch, all wrapped in a thin cocoa butter shell. Playful and nostalgic.

The final course is a banana semifreddo with bru coffee caramel, roasted walnut crunch, plum gel, and a fried banana shard. Texture, temperature, and richness all dance together, it’s indulgent but never heavy.
Meh’r isn’t about shock-and-awe fine dining. Whether you’re after a casual night out or a full-on culinary journey, Meh’r is worth the visit. Especially now that you don’t have to climb stairs to get there. Lunch sets start at $39 so that is worth trying out!

Budget: $40 to $100 per person
