Media Tasting at UoShin Zushi
The founders from UoShin Zushi has achieved success in a Japanese restaurant in Malaysia and has officially launched on 10 Oct 2017 at Amoy Street in Singapore. Serving affordable and good Japanese food, one of the popular dishes goes to roasted salmon sushi in 5 different types of sauces. You also can’t miss the thickly sliced sashimi.
The fish skin was deep-fried to a nice light golden brown. Each piece was thin, airy and savoury. The crisp is simply addictive, its hard to stop at one!
Fish Skin Kaarage at S$3++.
The sashimi platter comes with 5 different types of fish and seafood sashimi and served in a wooden ship bowl full of shaved ice. The assorted sashimi platter which includes salmon, salmon belly, yellowtail, scallop and sweet prawn. Each slice was thicker than the standard cut for most sashimi. What I also like from this platter; they were well handled, I can taste the natural flavours of the sashimi. The thick layers of fat that marbled the salmon were my favourite. Not forgetting the large scallop sashimi, the flesh was slightly firm but tender with a sweet finish.
Natsu Sashimi (5 types of sashimi – 2 pcs each) at S$32++.
This is a steal exclusively for the lunch crowd. For the first bite, don’t add anything, just enjoy it tenderly in your mouth with a depth of smoky taste. However, I would have enjoyed more if it was less oily.
Grilled Salmon Fin at S$2++ (2 pcs).
Roasted salmon sushi in 5 different types of sauces including spicy sauce, honey lemon, sweet & spicy, mentai, black pepper sauce. The salmon was lightly burnt, with a nice smokey flavour, and brushed with the different types of sauces, definitely can’t stop at one piece.
Roasted salmon sushi at S$1.70++ each.
Salted Egg Tempura & Garlic Fried Rice is one of the new items on the menu. Can’t help myself with more serving of the tasty garlic fried rice. The nicely battered tempura was executed well and each component was cooked till tender on the inside and crisp on the outside. Though the salted egg sauce tasted pleasantly savoury and was a good coating, I secretly wished it was less greasy.
Salted Egg Tempura & Garlic Fried Rice at S$12++.
Featuring matcha and goma ice cream. Each scoop of ice cream is topped with some sweet red bean paste. The ice cream took on a grainy texture, if you prefer something smooth, this might not be for you. On the other hand, I have enjoyed goma ice cream taste.
If you’re looking for a cozy restaurant, UoShin Zushi is a good place for a gathering with family and friends. I have enjoyed most of the dishes served at UoShin Zushi including appetisers, sashimi and sushi. Do note that the waiting time between dishes can be a little long.
