Media Tasting at Santouka
For those who are unfamiliar to Santouka, it is a Japanese ramen restaurant at The Central, best for its Hokkaido-style ramen and pork cheek. Despite having 53 outlets in 9 countries, the quality is kept consistent throughout all the outlets. Such that the diners can enjoy the same quality of ramen regardless of where they dine. For beginners, I would recommend trying the Signature pork cheek ramen. The pork had a slight hint of smokiness with a beautiful, flavourful cut of pork cheeks that melts in your mouth. Pork cheeks are extremely valuable parts of only 200-300g per whole pig which is served daily in limited quantity.
Santouka Toroniku Ramen at S$22 (+S$1 for Kara-Miso).
In Santouka new menu, you can expect Tantan men and Roast Beef Ae-Soba.
The roast beef ae-soba with home-made wasabi dressing is a delicious and refreshing dish to eat in hot weather and a perfect salad for lunch or dinner! The wasabi dressing is superb! And the roast beef is a thicker slice and tends to be chewier. It is addictive that you keep on eating.
Do not be deceived by the hot chilli oil surface on Tantan men ramen. Non-chilli lovers will be delighted as it is mildly spicy. Chilli lovers may add as much chilli oil provided on every table. What I like most for Tantan men would be the marinated minced meat. The marinated minced meat is very flavourful together with rich sesame and meat miso complement the moderately hot tonkatsu broth.
For a lighter, but just as the flavorful dish, I would recommend Roast Beef Ae-Soba. And for a rich and stronger taste, I would recommend Tantan men and leave your taste buds tingling with joy.
