At an unnoticed corner of Bugis Junction at Level 2, a relatively low profile Japanese restaurant Ma Maison is found. Looking in from the outside, it was dark ambience. Ma Maison Japanese restaurant is more on the western style with tables and chairs and bar table. The tablecloth is of a thick quality, vintage-outlined botanical green fabric. To me, it looks pompous and substantial Victorian style when coordinated with the jumbled stylistic layout, in spite of the fact that the fabric feels extremely smooth and has general comfortable look. Each table is lit by a table lamp or a candle on tealight holder which was quite romantic for dining.
Ma Maison Hot Potato Gratin with gooey melting Cheese at S$7.80*. The potato and carrot bites retain their shape and add a half boiled egg beneath to the tangy cheese. Best served as an appetiser.
Ma Maison Omu Rice Katsu at S$20.80*. Their Omu Ketchup Rice is a top pick with a fragrant tomato-flavoured fried rice indulged inside the solace of super delicate, fleecy scrambled eggs. Roosted on top with Ma Maison‘s crunchy and delicious chunk of Pork Katsu. It was then dressed with Ma Maison sauces.
Ma Maison Japanese Style Spaghetti at S$17.80*. While this may resemble a plate of Mushroom Aglio Olio at first look, it is a soya sauce based pasta with Asian ingredients like onions and an untidy fried egg. The final dish is a plate of spaghetti that unequivocally takes after our local food fried kuey teow in a light coloured version. Is there any Japanese readers here who can tell me if Japanese Style Spaghetti in Japan tasted the same too?
Ma Maison Beef Stroganov Omu Rice at S$16.80*. This dish accompanied fragrant and flavourful butter rice, wrapped with runny omelette and beef bites. The thick brown sauce is loaded with flavor and the beef bites were tender. This is one dish I always order at Ma Maison. However there is no consistency in the beef tendency. I do get rough and hard beef bites occasionally.
