Hikiniku To Come 02
Tried Hikiniku To Come, the cult-favourite hamburg steak concept from Tokyo, and I can understand the hype.

The menu is simple. For $27.90++, you get three charcoal-grilled hamburg steaks made from 100% Japanese beef, served one at a time. What makes it interesting is how each patty is meant to be enjoyed differently, turning a humble hamburg steak and rice meal into something much more memorable.

The first patty lets you appreciate the beef in its purest form. Juicy, tender and packed with flavour, with a subtle smokiness from the grill. For the second, I added grated radish and ponzu, which gave it a refreshing contrast. The final patty was my favourite, dipped into egg yolk and enjoyed with rice mixed with egg and soy sauce for a rich and comforting finish.

I also liked how customisable the experience was. There are various condiments at the table, from oil-marinated green chillies to Japanese pepper sauce and soy sauce flakes, so you can switch up the flavours throughout the meal.

It may sound like a simple beef-and-rice set, but it’s the attention to detail that makes it stand out. Plus, the unlimited rice refills definitely don’t hurt.
