Shikar 01
The meal at Shikar began on a playful and inviting note with a cold pani puri as the amuse-bouche. Crisp, hollow shells were filled with spiced potato and chickpea, paired with a tangy, refreshing tamarind-mint water that hit all the right notes – bright, slightly sweet, and just enough heat to wake up the palate.

Alongside this, the welcome smoked poppadums arrived, thin and lightly crisp with a gentle smoky aroma, accompanied by tangy mango-paprika and mint-mango chutneys. It was a light, flavorful introduction that set the tone for a thoughtful, well-paced meal.

For starters, I had the wild-caught tiger prawns, simply grilled and seasoned with Kashmiri chillies, garlic, and fenugreek. The spices enhanced the natural sweetness of the prawns without masking it, making for a balanced, satisfying starter.

For mains, I had the lotus leaf-roasted seabass. The parcel of fish was soft and flaky, perfumed with tamarind, chillies, and a caramelised onion-tomato rub. The lotus leaf added an earthy note and kept the fish moist, making every bite delicate yet flavourful.

My dining partner opted for the coconut shell-baked lamb shoulder sukka. The lamb was tender and robust, with the black pepper, ginger, and green chilli gravy enriched by the subtle coconut aroma released tableside when the shell was opened; a thoughtful touch that elevated the experience.

Desserts were understated but memorable. The crisp crepes filled with medjool dates, walnuts, saffron, and paired with chocolate ice cream combined sweetness, texture, and warmth perfectly.

The caramelised milk cake “jamun” was soft and fragrant, complemented by toasted almonds and a hint of mascarpone. It closed the meal with a comforting, lightly indulgent finish.

Shikar’s Celebration Menu felt refined yet approachable. Each course was executed with care, highlighting technique and balance rather than overt theatrics.  Psst, it’s 1-for-1 from now till 28 February 2025 during lunch or early-bird dinner!
