Media Tasting at V Dining
Nestled in the heart of Orchard Road’s Scotts Square, V Dining offers a tranquil space for those looking for somewhere to rest after shopping or simply for an afternoon tea treat.
The newly-launched afternoon tea “Taste of Asia” will bring you on a trip down memory lane as classic and nostalgic flavours are given unique and modern spins.
The arctic clams with vermicelli dish was sufficiently tangy to whet our appetites, both refreshing and fragrant.
The savoury dishes are served first and are distinctly Singaporean. The chicken rice is what Singaporeans are used to – succulent white chicken and rice encased in a light tempura batter with chilli, black soy and sesame mayo topping it off.
The beef rendang was another notable dish – tender beef sandwiched in soft pillowy mantou and topped off with cucumber yogurt.
Moving on to the sweets, the salted egg tart choux puff was a definite scene stealer. The salted egg custard was incredibly smooth (none of the graininess from salted egg, yet retaining the addictive salty-sweet flavours you would expect). The choux puff was generously filled with custard, so be careful when you sink your teeth into this. Passionfruit gel was also added to give it a slight zest, indeed a multi-dimensional creation.
The pandan kaya swissroll, tropical verrine and black sesame macaron makes use of ingredients commonly found in Southeast Asia and turned into delicious and beautiful creations. In particular, the tropical verrine is a mixture of mango compote, coconut mousse and passionfruit cremeux, a well-balanced fruity profile.
Another interesting creation was the ginger and lavender crème brulee. The subtle lavender floral notes was a good complement to the slightly spicy ginger.
Completing the afternoon tea are excellent scones (served warm!) that we simply could not get enough off. The scones were a buttery perfection, served with homemade spreads (clotted cream, marmalade and raspberry jam).
The high tea is priced at S$58++ per person (with a serving of artisanal teas from Tea Forte) or S$78++ (with a glass of bubbly from Duetz Champagne) and is only available on Saturdays and Sundays from 3pm to 6pm. The dishes on the high tea menu would also rotate every 6 weeks.
