Pig Trotter Jelly is a dish that is cooked using cuts of pig meat, for example, the trotter meat and the skin. Pig Trotter Jelly is a well known Teochew snack. From preparation to stewing, it takes at least 2 days to prepare the dish. As Pig Trotter Jelly is such a time consuming dish, Pig Trotter Jelly is hence not just an uncommon dish at the hawker centre, and also one that is hard to prepare at home. The third generation Teochew couple is still selling Pig Trotter Jelly at Berseh Food Centre. Besides selling Pig Trotter Jelly, Lao Liang also sells shark’s meat and homemade braised pork. Each dish comes in 3 prices, SGD5, SGD8 and SGD10.

Bouncy and smooth Pig Trotter Jelly not only tastes good. It is also a beauty craze that is rich in collagen, considered to be good for the skin and hair.
It goes with a very special chilli sauce which they make with ginger for Pig Trotter Jelly.
Shark’s meat. (Price: SGD5)
Teochew focuses on “cheng”, meaning light cooking method. Shark’s meat holds onto natural fish sweetness without any seasoning. It goes with a very special plum sauce that takes 2-3 years to produce from preserved plums.
Homemade braised pork. (Price: SGD5)
If you eat kway chaps, you’ll love this dish too.
It goes with a very special chilli sauce which they mixed with garlic for Shark’s meat.
Lao Liang is the only store in Singapore selling Pig Trotter Jelly and Shark’s Meat. They use traditional way of Teochew cooking method. The dishes listed are light and not so salty. Visit early as your favourite dish may be sold out.
