Media Tasting at Vatos Urban Tacos

Hailing from Korea, the popular chain – Vatos Urban Tacos, has been dishing out Korean-Mexican fusion eats at South Beach Quarter. Over here, you can expect to find flavourful and zesty Ko-Mex dishes like Kimchi Carnitas Fries, Galbi Short Ribs Tacos and more.

To start off, diners can get to enjoy the first basket of Fresh Corn Tortillas & Salsa on the house. Served with two types of salsa – a tomatillo salsa verde and roasted onion chipotle salsa, it is the perfect bar snack to pair with their interesting cocktails.

We got to try Sexy Sanchez from their line of signature cocktails known as “Vato’s Ritas”. Don’t be fooled by the taste of Sexy Sanchez – a sweet concotion of strawberry margarita, albens apple and strawberry cider. Underneath its sweet and refreshing taste lies a strong alcohol kick.

No visit is completed without trying their infamous Kimchi Carnitas Fries. Heaps of shredded braised pork carnitas, sautéed kimchi, the usual Mexican condiments and gooey cheese are loaded atop of a bed of seasoned shoestring fries. The zesty tang from the kimchi definitely brightens the dish flavour and makes it stands out. The Kimchi Carnitas Fries was voted as “Best Dish In Korea” by 10 Magazine and one of the “six must-try foods in Seoul” by The Fodor’s Travel Guide.

Next up, their Mango Prawn Quesadillas is another must try. Filled with melted mozzarella cheese and chipotle prawn, the tortilla is topped with sour cream, avocado slices and fresh mango salsa. The heavy cheese is balanced out by the light and vibrant mango salsa. The avocado slices added a nice creamy texture to the otherwise dry tortilla skin.

Mango Prawn Quesadillas at S$22.

Stuffed to the brim with tender marinated short rib, ssamjang aioli, Asian slaw, cilantro, chopped onion and roasted sesame seeds, the Galbi Short Ribs Tacos was the favourite of the night. Marinated to perfection, the juicy and flavourful shredded ribs kept falling off as we bite into the over-loaded tacos. It was not a pretty scene but the generous portion of fillings makes up for it.

Galbi Short Ribs Tacos at S$13 for two & S$18 for three.

While the prices might be a tad high over here, the ambience and food at Vatos Urban Tacos definitely make it a great place to chill with your friends if you have some cash to spare.
