White Restaurant is no stranger to most people, and the restaurant has curated set menus (for groups of 4, 6 and 8) to celebrate the upcoming Mother’s Day.  We tried the Taste of Joy set (for 8 persons).

Warm your stomach with the premium collagen wonton soup that has been slow-cooked for hours.  An alternative option to this house is the braised crab meat and fish maw soup.

Our first side was the braised duck confit with sea cucumber and fish maw.  The meat was very tender and the thick herbal-like sauce complimented the duck and dried seafood well.  You can also choose the curry prawn yam ring with lily bulb as an alternative if you prefer something spicy.

This steamed threadfin with homemade chilli sauce might not look like it, but does pack quite a punch in terms of spice levels.  The fish is fresh and without hints of any fishy smell.  If you prefer something less spicy, you can opt for steamed threadfin with homemade “chai poh” instead.

Wok-fried asparagus and lily bulb with pacific clams is one of the lighter dishes and provides the obligatory portion of greens.

A unanimous favourite at the table was this crisp-fried prawn in salt & pepper with pork floss.  Delightfully crisp, the prawns are well-seasoned and spiced and the pork floss was a great match to the juicy prawns.

And of course, all sets are headlined by the Signature White Beehoon, dressed up with deluxe additions for the occasion.  Whole abalones and scallops are added to the usual white bee hoon, which already features generous amounts of seafood such as prawns and squid.  

The sweets available are red bean snow pancake, wild honey black sesame paste with walnut, or White restaurant’s signature yam paste.  

Do note that all set menus come with a free appetiser of mini peppercorn, abalone and japanese cucumber (from 26 April to 30 June 2022).  Also, if you dine in between 26 April and 15 May 2022, any purchase of a set menu will entitle you to spin and win gifts such as white truffle abalone, collagen broth, braised dried scallop abalone, dried shrimp chilli paste and premium abalone in brine.
