This Parents’ Day (Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day), White Restaurant collaborates with Ah Ge Li Nanxing to create “Dried Scallop Hae Bee Hiam XO White Beehoon”, available at all White Restaurant outlets for a limited time.  Along with its debut are other hae bee hiam sides and these dishes will be available from 27 April to 26 July 2021. 
We have made many visits to White Restaurant and a place that we will readily return to for comfort food.  No added words needed for this Original White Beehoon with scrumptious broth and fresh seafood.

The “limited edition” dish is this Dried Scallop Hae Bee Hiam XO White Beehoon ($10.80++).  Sounds complicated?  Just think White Restaurant’s star dish – The Signature White Beehoon – but elevated with dried scallops, prawn, squid and hae bee hiam.  A dash of XO sauce is added to a mix of spices including belachan, palm sugar, lemon grass, yellow ginger leaves.  We love how the hae bee hiam complemented the silky beehoon.  It is, however, quite mild on the spice level so those who prefer it to be more spicy can ask for additional chilli on the side.

Together with the beehoon, diners can also look forward to new sides.  Our favourite is the Homemade Soy Tofu with Dried Scallop Hae Bee Hiam Minced Pork ($13.80++).  The restaurant’s signature homemade soy tofu takes on a bolder flavour profile by adding hae bee hiam to minced pork, mushrooms and nai bai vegetables.  The tofu is also very smooth.

French beans with dried scallop hae bee hiam minced pork ($14.80) is a staple at many of the meals that we have at Chinese restaurants.  Whilst White Restaurant’s rendition is not particularly innovative, it is a good side to have albeit being a little on the saltier side.

Seafood lovers should not miss out on the Stir-fried Prawns with Dried Scallop Hae Bee Hiam ($20.80).  Each tiger prawn is properly coated with dried scallop hae bee hiam and the capsicums give the dish an added sweetness and crunch.

A non-hae bee hiam dish that we tried and unexpectedly found favour with our fellow diners was the Plum Sauce Duck Confit with Sea Cucumber – only available as part of the Hae Bee Hiam Sets.  The meat was very tender and the sauce whilst on the sweeter side, complements the juicy thigh meat.  I was initially hesitant that the meat would turn out to be gamey but this was well-prepared without a hint of the gaminess.
