Media Tasting at The Hungry Caveman
Gather all your lazy friends to the first automated BBQ restaurant in Singapore! Just place your skewers in place and sit back, relax and pig out! In partnership with China’s biggest BBQ chain, The Hungry Caveman has made its way to our tiny country.
Their Signature Lamb and AUS Grain Fed Beef are best-sellers in China, and are not to be missed. However, the chicken and pork skewers are undoubtedly more popular among Singaporeans. For chicken meat, there is a variety of choices such as Chicken Skewer, Chicken Skin and Chicken Mid-Joint Wings. The wings come in many flavours, Cajun, Honey Glazed, Fragrant Garlic, Xiang La, Spicy Ma-La and Extreme Spicy. My personal favourite was the Honey Glazed wings while my plus one preferred the Spicy Ma-La wings that packs a punch with every bite.
You may try the 3 sauces (peanut, dried chili and chili sauce) imported directly from China if you would like to add more flavour into your skewers.
Similarly, the pork skewers also have a wide variety of options such as the Bacon wrapped with Enoki Mushroom Skewer and Pork Belly Skewer. For seafood lovers, you have to try the Spear-The-Salmon Skewer! Every skewer I had was very well marinated and complemented well with its protein. The Hungry Caveman also have Grilled Milk Man Tou, order this for a change from the typical fried/steamed mantou in Singapore!
Talk about inclusivity, they have a delectable range of vegan friendly choices, Oyster Mushroom, Shiitake Mushroom, Grilled Broccoli and Grilled Sweet Corn. I love my greens barbecued and they were flavourful as well, not losing out to their protein skewer counterparts. To balance out a hearty meal, pair it up with the Wang Lao Ji Herbal Tea. I strongly recommend this drink because this ‘liang cha’ actually taste astoundingly good.
The food mentioned above are all skewers and if you’re somehow not a good cook despite it being this easy already, fret not! The restaurant also serves up an array of ready cooked dishes. Such as The Golden Egg Fried Rice, Special Fried Noodles, Century Egg with Marinated Ginger, Grilled Golden Mushroom and The Yummy Garlic Eggplant were so simple yet very delicious. The Stir Fried Clam with Spring Onion had strong spicy, sichuan flavours, uniquely from China.
The Premium Scallop with Garlic Vermicelli and Grilled Giant Squid brought back my memories of the time I was in China, Shenzhen. These dishes were authentic to what I have had and it’s a must try when you visit The Hungry Caveman!
To end of our huge feast, we had Grilled Banana and it was absolutely mind-blowing. It tasted similar to the Goreng Pisang which we’re familiar with, but without the thick layer of flour batter.
All in all, drop by the restaurant to experience Singapore’s first automated barbecue skewers machines and also to savour Chinese food as authentic as those directly from China! (Check out the weekday deals below)
