Media Tasting at Teochew Cuisine 潮州菜馆

Teochew Cuisine 潮州菜馆 has 2 restaurants, both located around the residential district of Bukit Batok and Toa Payoh. Supper goers would rejoice to find out that they actually operate 24/7!

Featuring their Jing Tai Lan Fish Head Steamboat that is available in 3 different sizes, served in a traditional bronze steamboat ware, hand painted with porcelain ‘art’. I could imagine this as the centerpiece of attention which could impress youth and elderly alike. Did I forget to mention about charcoal being the heating element of this steamboat? 

What is contained in the steamboat itself were yam cubes, sour plums and fried fish. The broth was boiled with chicken and fish, giving that richness that I enjoyed. The addition of evaporated milk provided a slight milkiness to elevate the overall taste. I easily drank more than 5 bowls of soup that night. 

The steamboat also comes with a choice of sliced fish, either red grouper or silver pomfret, as well as vegetables, mushrooms and fried egg as topping. I tried the red grouper that night and the freshness of the fish did impress me.

Besides the steamboat, Teochew Cuisine 潮州菜馆 also serves up 100% handmade dim sums varying from steamed to fried/pan fried. Their skin might be a little too thick and the more unique one would be their walnut paus which had black sesame fillings in them. 

Definitely a great supper spot for those living around the area or for those who drive.
