Golden Peony is a Chinese restaurant at Conrad Centennial Singapore. Conrad Centennial Singapore is favourably located at the heart of Singapore. With 11 minutes walk from Marina Bay and 8 km from Universal Studios Singapore (USS). Besides sending my blessings to the newly-weds, I am also looking forward to the wedding banquet. Before the start of the wedding banquet, there is a short half an hour cocktail session where we confabulated with other guests and newly-weds. And it is also the usual practice that no wedding banquet starts on time. So don’t go on an empty stomach. The eighth-course wedding banquet kick-started with the Happiness Platter, also known as customary cold dish.  In Golden Peony, the food server distributed the cold dish equally to 12 smaller servings.

The Happiness Platter consisted of Barbequed Suckling Pig, Vietnamese Spring Roll, Sliced Drunken Chicken, Chilled Sea Whelk in “Thai” Sauce, Sea Jelly with XO Sauce. Every morsel was a winner.

The Red Grouper was steamed just well, sweetness and freshness of the fish has allowed the superior soy sauce to come through.

Conrad Duo Magnificent – Prawn Ball coated with Golden-fried Bread Crumb and Sauteed Spare Rib in Mocha Sauce. I couldn’t finish the spare rib as it was cold and hard upon served.

With Fish Maw floating on the surface, braised with conpoy and bamboo pith, the soup was flavourful.

Then came the Scallops. It was paired with braised with “honshimeiji” mushroom and Japanese mushroom served with spinach. Hearty meat-like mushrooms is a nutritious way to enhance any dish.

The main meat of the banquet was a thick and generous mound of Roasted Duck. The stripe-shaped meat chuck sat on a garden lettuces, marinated with wolfberries and red dates. The heaviness of the herbal sauce made the meat more hefty.

Mian Xian” – Stir fried Vermicelli with Assorted Vegetable, Barbecued Pork and Diced Prawn.

Finale ended with a chilled Lemongrass Jelly with aloe vera, diced mango and strawberry.
