Unwind under the stars along the historic Singapore River, George Town Tze Char & Craft beer is an ideal spot to be for drinks and feasting traditional Penang favourites. George Town Tze Char & Craft beer is a relatively new alfresco restaurant at 81 Boat Quay. The dishes are specially crafted by award-winning Executive Chef, George Tan, backed by over 20 years of experiences.
Chunks of bite size Rendang Beef Cubes (S$18) with savoury, decently tender beef tossed in a hint of zingy flavours of rendang.
We shared Kungfu Pork Ribs (S$18) and found that the meat’s texture can be inconsistent. I’ve enjoyed it with the appetising side salad that leaves for a refreshing effect in the mouth.
Tender, springy but not chewy Penang Thai Style Squid (S$15) yet it’s also surprisingly light, not greasy.
These deep-fried large, crispy Pumpkin Prawns ($$20) are coated in creamy sweet pumpkin sauce.
The crowd favourite of the night goes to the Signature Thai Curry Fish Head (S$28).
You’ll never get enough of the appetising curry fish head sauce. It is a mix of Thai herbs and a variety of spices such as lemongrass, curry leaves, tamarind and more. That extra zesty kick made us crave for another bowl of rice. The fish meat was decently fresh and soft. I was glad that it didn’t leave a fishy taste.
As the previous dish, Signature Thai Curry Fish Head has certainly stole all the limelight at George Town Tze Char & Craft Beer. We found the chilli crabs are pretty much norm. The sauce is more towards tomato-based over spicy sauce. However, the promotion price (500g at S$15 per crab) is too attractive to give it a miss.
Do not underestimate XO Signature Hor Fun (S$12) despite its pale and humble look. The hor fun is packed with wok hei however we were craving for a stronger XO taste.
