Toby’s The Dessert Asylum is definitely a hidden gem located along Boon Lay Way, at Tradehub 21. The westies are probably more familiar with this casual American style cafe that serves quality food since it was opened back in 2009. With a really friendly manager in charge, no wonder I love the relaxed vibes after stepping into the cafe.

Started off with the battered button mushroom with tartar dip that was not thankfully not at all greasy. They were probably lightly sprinkled with paprika and tasted good on its own. If it gets too dry, the tartar dip would definitely help.

The Lava Cheese Burger got me rather excited as the staff started injecting hot nacho cheese from the top of the burger. I could not help requesting more cheese to be pump in as who could have resisted such cheesy indulgence with juicy beef patty? Not wanting to waste the cheese, use the paprika seasoned fries on the sides to wipe it up. Feel free to top up an additional S$4 for extra patty!

The BBQ Baby Ribs comes with a choice of potato salad, fried or garlic rice. I felt that it was, in fact, a downplay as compared to Lava Cheese Burger. The BBQ glaze was really good yet was insufficient, making the dish appear a little too dry. It would, of course, be best if the ribs could be fork tender.

Grab a glass of recommended refreshing drink such as the Rambo-tan, a combination of ice blended rambutans and pineapple or perhaps the Coffee Chendol, espresso with gula melaka.

Last but not least, as the name suggest, check out Toby’s The Dessert Asylum’s array of desserts made in house by the lady boss herself! It definitely was a difficult choice choosing since all desserts were especially tempting for a sweet tooth like myself.

For durian lovers, pick the D’Lover as beneath the chocolate dome lies fresh Mao shan wang durian! The seasonal Orh Nee Cake was also rather unique, yet a little heavy since real yam was used and mashed by hand.
