Greeted by books laid neatly along rows of shelvings along each side of the wall, one might easily mistaken The Reading Room’s identity. The Reading Room is in fact a book cafe by day and bar by night, serving food ranging from hearty breakfast to dinner sets.

The soup of the day was mushroom soup and it felt slightly diluted and the taste of mushrooms could perhaps be more intense. It would be great to have a slice of garlic bread as accompaniment as well.   

On the other hand, the appetiser of sliced portobello mushrooms deep fried in batter till crispy works rather well and suit my liking. Dunking into the mayo adds moisture to the dish.

The fish and chips was my favourite dish that night. Beautifully deep fried till golden brown, the batter was crispy, encasing the firm texture of the fish. The fries that came along were also rather chunkily coated with batter in a positive way.

The other main was the lobster pasta in white wine reduction. The dish itself was brimming with umami as the pasta was slow cooked in white wine. Perfectly al denta with chunks of lobster meat still encased in shell which seafood lovers would enjoy. That slice of crispy garlic bread should go to the mushroom soup as well!

Complete your meal with a glass of alcohol or drink and I love the matcha shake that came with a scoop of ice cream!
