Guerilla Coffee, the homegrown specialty coffee brand, has officially launched its flagship outlet at Kallang Riverside, offering a fresh and dynamic take on the traditional cafe experience.  

The spacious 80-seater venue aims to redefine what a cafe can be by positioning itself as a vibrant hub for community engagement. It invites diverse interest groups to come together, fostering collaboration and connection within a modern, welcoming setting.

Guerilla Coffee places a strong emphasis on its coffee craft, evident from its on-site roastery and unique “Slow Bar Menu.” The curated selection of filter coffees is presented in an elegant, wine-list style, offering a thoughtful experience for connoisseurs and casual drinkers alike.  

During our visit, we had the opportunity to sample their all-day menu, which combines creativity with fresh, seasonal ingredients.

One standout was the Guerrilla Seasonal Butterboard ($18), an inventive dish featuring house-churned butter paired with seasonally rotated ingredients. Served on a wooden board and topped with a sprinkle of coffee salt, the butter was complemented by juicy pomegranates and sweet grapes, elevating the experience. This playful yet sophisticated dish is perfect for those who appreciate nuanced flavors.

For a lighter, healthier option, the Summer Chicken Salad ($18) shines with its refreshing combination of pomelo, orange slices, and shredded chicken, all tossed in a zesty citrus dressing. The addition of raw red onions provides a sharp contrast, while whole basil leaves bring an Asian-inspired freshness that ties the dish together.

However, the dish that truly stole the show was the Grilled Pork Jowl ($28). The pork was exceptionally tender and expertly grilled, with the smoky flavor beautifully enhanced by a tangy nam jim jaew dip. It’s a bold and savory option that stands out among the menu’s offerings, showcasing Guerilla Coffee’s dedication to quality and flavor.

For an additional $3, you can upgrade your meal with a side of housemade, fluffy brioche, which perfectly accompanies the rich flavors of the pork.

While I had high expectations for the Tamarind Sea Bass ($28), a fillet served in a tamarind broth with ginger flower, lime, and okra, I found the dish lacking in depth. The flavors, though promising, didn’t come through as strongly as anticipated, leaving me wanting more in terms of balance and complexity. It’s a dish with great potential, but it didn’t quite hit the mark during my visit.

On the other hand, the Buttermilk Chicken Waffles & Espresso Maple ($20) proved to be a good brunch option.  The crispy, cereal-style battered chicken, perched atop a soft, warm waffle, was a delightful contrast of textures.  The dish was finished off with a generous drizzle of Espresso Maple Syrup, which added just the right amount of sweetness and depth, making it a delicious and satisfying choice for any brunch enthusiast.

For dessert, the offerings are a perfect way to end your meal on a high note. My pick was the Walnut Dark Chocolate Banana Bread with Chantilly Cream ($12). The freshly baked banana bread was studded with generous chunks of rich dark chocolate and crunchy English walnuts, providing a satisfying balance of sweetness and texture. Paired with the light and airy Chantilly cream, it was the perfect indulgence.

Coffee lovers, however, should not miss the Guerrilla G2 Tiramisu Deck ($16). This decadent dessert is made with Savoiardi biscuits soaked in Guerrilla No.2 espresso and Kahlua, layered with mascarpone cream, and dusted with bittersweet cocoa powder. The result is a wonderfully rich and aromatic tiramisu, with the coffee flavors offering a deliciously bold contrast to the creamy layers.  

With its thoughtful menu, strong community ethos, and focus on exceptional coffee, Guerilla Coffee at Kallang Riverside is a must-visit for both coffee aficionados and food lovers alike.
