Media Tasting at Toby’s – Kopi, Toast, Bakery
Toby’s , previously known as Toby’s The Dessert Asylum has recently revamped its menu almost entirely to Toby’s – Kopi, Toast, Bakery after over 4 years of serving Western. In fact, it might be a good move since turning to serving these new asian dishes would definitely attract the industrial office crowd around Jurong area. So, the question would be how do the food fare after the drastic change?
Coffee, tea and toast would definitely lure in the morning breakfast crowd. I myself enjoy having these for breakfast and would love the bread to be more toasted.
The chicken cutlet curry rice was served in a rather large plate, comes with egg, cabbages and drenched with curry. Not the thickest curry I tried but glad that it wasn’t watery with a slightly appetising sourness. The fried chicken batter was also crispy and not overly oily.
Glad to know that the noodles were all made in house by a machine that produces them. The pork ribs were rather tender and the soup base tested better than it looks.
For ladies who prefer something light for lunch, try going for their series of porridge or the rather unique healthier Eight Treasures Congee. The ‘’Congee’’ is made from 8 different ingredients and the red beans could be its base. It was sweet and almost close to dessert-like.
Not to forget their popular series of cakes which I had an impression on since my last visit. As the D’Lover (Durian cake) was sold out, I went for their Ondeh Ondeh Cake which uses gula melaka sourced from Malacca and their Black Forest cake that contains alcohol soak cherries.
