Media Tasting at 99 Old Trees – Durians & Desserts
99 Old Trees has recently launched SukaWa, a first-of-its-kind ‘omakase’ style durian experience within its premise located walking distance from Farrer Park MRT station.
Sukawa is a session which lasts for about 45 mins to an hour, 2 sessions per week and holding a maximum of up to 8 pax in each time slot.
The session welcomes participants with a ‘cooling’ concoction of mint, cucumber and lemon water which was refillable. It was followed by either ‘A Sweet Beginning’ which was homemade Durian Choux Puff piped with a mixture of D24 durian puree and fresh cream or Durian Mousse made with D24 durian puree. I had the latter which was rather smooth, icy and refreshing. A great ‘starter’ which prepared me for the ‘mains’.
6 variants will be presented and served based on the availability and quality, from out of the 12 variants of durians on rotational basics. We were served in 3s, starting from the ones lighter in taste – D1, D13, Red Prawn. A palate cleanser of hot tea is served before another 3 – Golden Phoenix, D24 and lastly Mao Shan Wang. Feel free to ask any questions regarding durian and durian experts would gladly share with you all his knowledge.
Besides that, there will also be unlimited additional portions of either Mao Shan Wang or D24 durian until the end of the session. Conclude your durian feast with a whole coconut to cool the heat down!
